About Me
Hi, I’m Katie Calabrese, a licensed therapist with over 17 years of experience working with people during some of the most challenging and pivotal moments of their lives. My background spans a licensed forensic psychiatric hospital, an ambulatory substance-use treatment program, and private practice. Those settings taught me how complex, resilient, and human people are, and how important it is to meet each person with respect, honesty, and care rather than assumptions or labels.
I earned my Master’s degree in Community Counseling from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and hold a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. I work with individuals ages 16 and older, including men and women, veterans, and couples. Much of my work focuses on early recovery from substance use, moderate to severe mental health challenges, and major life transitions. I also offer life coaching for clients who want practical support turning insight into action.
I’m licensed to practice in Virginia, Pennsylvania, and the District of Columbia.
How I Work
I believe therapy should feel grounded, collaborative, and real. You don’t need to have the “right words” or a clear plan when you start—we’ll figure things out together.
What you can expect from working with me:
Evidence-informed counseling shaped by years of hands-on clinical experience
A trauma-aware, respectful approach that honors your history, strengths, and pace
Practical tools for relapse prevention, symptom management, and navigating change
Goal-focused life coaching to help you build skills and momentum in everyday life
Above all, my goal is to create a space where you feel safe, understood, and supported, while also being gently challenged to grow in ways that matter to you.
-
During this brief, no-pressure call we will discuss what brings you to therapy, review my therapeutic approach, and answer any questions you have. This is an opportunity to connect and provide clarity to help you move forward with confidence.
-
If you decide I'm a good fit for you, we'll schedule an intake session. Once scheduled, I will enroll you in the Elevate Clarity patient portal to complete your intake paperwork. You will receive a secure portal link and instructions for completing all intake paperwork including information about fees, consents, and your mental health history.
-
This session will be structured and collaborative as we explore your current concerns, clarify priorities for therapy, and identify strengths and support systems. We will also discuss what therapy will look like for you moving forward including frequency of sessions and style of treatment planning that you prefer.
